The army said that some of the missiles had been shot down and others had fallen in undeveloped areas. No information was given about possible casualties.
The Shiite militia Hezbollah in Lebanon announced that they had attacked the Haifa region with Fadi 1 rockets. They have been firing at Israel almost daily since the beginning of the Gaza war almost a year ago. According to the militia, which is allied with Iran, the aim is to support Hamas in the Gaza Strip in its fight against Israel and achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza war.
For a long time, Israel fired back on a similar scale. Since the beginning of the week, however, the air force has been carrying out massive airstrikes in Lebanon, in which hundreds of people have died. International efforts to achieve a ceasefire have so far been unsuccessful.
