Residents in the area of the city of Rafah and neighboring towns should go to Al-Mawasi immediately, according to an appeal published in Arabic. The Israeli army is resuming its "intensive operations" in the affected areas in order to take action against terrorist organizations. The map published with the appeal shows that the appeal applies to most of the city of Rafah.

The area around Al-Mawasi in the southwest was designated as a humanitarian zone during the war. In the past, however, the Israeli military has also attacked there on several occasions. According to the army, Hamas facilities were among the targets.

After a ceasefire agreement came into force on January 19, many displaced people in the Gaza Strip returned to their homes. In mid-March, Israel resumed its massive attacks in the Gaza Strip after the two sides were unable to agree on the conditions for an extension of the ceasefire.

Since then, Israel's army has also launched ground operations against Hamas in Rafah, and on Saturday it reportedly extended the offensive to a second quarter of the city. According to the army, the aim of the new ground offensive in the Gaza Strip is also to establish a buffer zone along the borders of the coastal area.
