According to Israel's army, it has launched a ground offensive against the Islamist Hamas in another district of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. The aim was to expand a "security zone", the military announced. Soldiers destroyed "Hamas terrorist infrastructure".

The army had already launched a ground offensive in another district of Rafah almost two weeks ago.

According to the information, Israel's army is also continuing to attack Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) targets throughout the Gaza Strip from the air. "Dozens of terrorists were eliminated during the attacks," a statement added. The information could not initially be independently verified.

According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, around 25 people have been killed in the past 24 hours. The figures, which do not distinguish between fighters and civilians, cannot be independently verified.

In mid-March, Israel resumed the massive attacks in the Gaza Strip after both sides were unable to agree on the conditions for an extension of the ceasefire.
