The Israeli army says it intends to restore the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. It had previously reportedly bombed dozens of targets in the Gaza Strip following a deadly attack on soldiers.

According to medical sources in the Gaza Strip, 91 people had been killed by the morning, including dozens of minors. The information could not initially be independently verified. The death toll would be the highest since the ceasefire began on October 10.

Israel's army had now "begun to enforce the ceasefire again" on the instructions of the political leadership, it announced in the morning. Previously, the military had "attacked more than 30 terrorists who held leadership positions within the terrorist organizations operating in the Gaza Strip" following violations of the agreement by the Islamist Hamas. The army also announced that it would continue to "respond decisively to any violations".

Israel responded with the heavy bombardment to an attack on Israeli soldiers, in which one was killed, as well as to delays in the agreed handover of killed hostages. Israel accused the terrorist organization Hamas. The Islamists denied responsibility for the attack. This could not be independently verified either.

Hamas had also previously handed over the mortal remains of an Israeli who had already been buried instead of the body of a hostage who was still missing.

Despite the new escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip, US President Donald Trump affirmed the continuation of the ceasefire agreement. Nothing would jeopardize the ceasefire. Hamas has promised that it will "behave".
