Israel will send a delegation to Doha in Qatar on Monday to advance negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the remaining hostages held by the Islamist Hamas. This was announced by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the evening. Israel had accepted an invitation from the negotiators supported by the USA, it said.

According to Israeli information, 24 living hostages and 35 bodies of abductees are still being held in the Gaza Strip. Israel is not negotiating directly with Hamas; negotiations are being conducted via mediators from Egypt and Qatar.

Hamas sees "positive signs"

A Hamas spokesperson emphasized the organization's willingness to enter the second phase of negotiations and reported "positive signs" that a second phase of the agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza could be reached. The spokesman also emphasized that Hamas has no problem meeting with representatives of the US government, as the latter has the power to exert pressure on Israel.

In January, Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the war in Gaza. Hamas hostages were released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The release of the remaining hostages was to be negotiated in a second phase.

Another demonstration for the release of hostages

Numerous people demonstrated again in Tel Aviv in the evening for an agreement that would enable the release of all hostages. Appeals from former hostages were also broadcast as video messages. "This is our opportunity to enter the negotiating room and not leave it until the moment we bring everyone home," said a man who had been released after 505 days in Hamas captivity. The girlfriend of a soldier held by Hamas warned: "If we return to fighting, they will die in captivity."
