Al-Haddad was named in a statement as one of the architects of the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023. In the attack, Hamas terrorists and other Islamists killed around 1,200 people in Israel and abducted more than 250 in the Gaza Strip.
Following the killing of Mohammed Sinwar, Al-Haddad had become the military chief of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli military sources, he was one of Hamas' longest-serving commanders. He had joined the terrorist organization in its founding phase, it was said. Israel has targeted and killed a number of Hamas political and military leaders.
Hamas also confirmed al-Haddad's death in a statement issued by the organization's combat brigades. His family had previously reported that al-Haddad, his wife and one of his daughters had been killed in the Israeli attack in a district of Gaza on Friday.
Al-Haddad was buried in Gaza in the afternoon. Before the funeral procession, people carried portraits of the Hamas commander, whose body was wrapped in a Hamas flag.
