For the first time in more than two decades, Israel's army has deployed tanks in the occupied West Bank. A picture of three tanks in action near the town of Jenin circulated on social media. Israeli and Palestinian media reported that this was the first time tanks had been deployed in the West Bank since the second Palestinian Intifada uprising.

The Israeli army announced on Platform X that Israeli troops would expand their offensive in the north of the West Bank. Jenin is considered a stronghold of militant Palestinians. "An armored unit will operate in Jenin as part of the offensive efforts," the statement said.
More than 3,500 Palestinians were killed during the second intifada (2000-2005). More than 1000 Israelis were killed in attacks by Palestinians at the time. Since the beginning of the Gaza war almost a year and a half ago, there has also been an increase in violence in the West Bank. There have recently been massive military operations by the army against militant Palestinians in the northern part of the territory occupied by Israel since the Six-Day War in 1967.
