New bombings by the Israeli air force in Iran's capital Tehran have sparked fears of chaos. Late Wednesday evening saw one of the heaviest waves of attacks of the war, as residents of the metropolis of millions reported. According to reports, targets in the open streets of the densely populated city were also bombed for the first time. Several checkpoints of the Iranian security forces are said to have been attacked.

Around ten security forces were killed on Wednesday evening, the Fars news agency reported. This is a provisional figure. According to the news agency, which is close to the powerful Revolutionary Guards, there were several explosions and unspecified "clashes" in Tehran. The agency accused the Israeli foreign intelligence service Mossad of infiltrating forces into the country.

In the northern urban areas of Tehran at the foot of the Albors Mountains, air defense systems thundered after dark on Wednesday, as eyewitnesses reported. Fighter drones could also be heard over the rooftops. One resident expressed concern that the airstrikes were causing chaos. "I'm afraid of a civil war," he said.

At the beginning of January, Iran's security apparatus brutally crushed mass protests in Iran against the authoritarian leadership. The state forces of repression, including the notorious Basdish units, are said to have killed thousands of demonstrators. Residents of the metropolis of millions once again shouted protest slogans from some houses during the attacks. "Death to the Basij" could be heard on recordings on social media.
