The meeting was reportedly attended by the General Staff, representatives of the Shin Bet domestic intelligence service and other commanders. Preparations are also being made to call up more reservists.

According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's new war plan envisages the capture of the city of Gaza as well as the destruction of the Islamist Hamas in the central refugee camps of the Gaza Strip.

According to media reports, Zamir had warned of the great risks of the plan. He said it would endanger soldiers and the hostages believed to be in the city of Gaza. Israeli media reported major tensions between Zamir and Defense Minister Israel Katz.
