Zamir said that the operations to date had achieved their objectives. "Hamas no longer has the capabilities it had before the operation began, we have dealt it a heavy blow," he said. At the same time, he emphasized that the Israeli army had "a moral duty to bring the hostages home - both the living and the dead".
The plan to expand the war in Gaza envisages the capture of the city of Gaza and central refugee camps in order to crush Hamas. According to media reports, Zamir had warned of major risks of the plan for soldiers and remaining hostages, but in the end initiated plans to fulfill the requirements of the country's political leadership.
