Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz used threatening tones during a troop visit to the south of Lebanon. "In recent days, we have seen attempts to send drones towards the state of Israel," said Katz, according to his office.

"I want to send a clear message from here to Hezbollah and the Lebanese government: Israel will not tolerate drone attacks from Lebanon." Threats will be responded to with all force, he warned. "Either there are no drones or there is no Hezbollah."

According to the White House, a ceasefire agreed in November between Israel and the pro-Iranian Shiite militia Hezbollah has been extended until February 18. The withdrawal of Israeli troops from the south of Lebanon, originally planned within 60 days, has been delayed. Both sides accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.

According to Israel, the Lebanese army, which is supposed to ensure compliance with the ceasefire and prevent Hezbollah from returning to the area, is not advancing fast enough. Hezbollah has also not withdrawn north of the Litani River as agreed.

After the deadline for the withdrawal expired on January 26, there was renewed fatal shelling in Lebanon when residents in the south tried to return to their homes. According to Lebanese reports, 24 people were killed by Israeli fire and more than 100 others were injured.
