Representatives of the USA and Ukraine began the first talks of the latest round of negotiations on a possible end to the war in the Saudi capital Riyadh this afternoon. "We have started the meeting with the American side," wrote Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umjerov on Platform X. "We are implementing the Ukrainian president's directive to bring a just peace closer and strengthen security."

First on the agenda are proposals to protect energy facilities and critical infrastructure. "Today we are working through a number of complex technical issues - our delegation includes energy experts as well as military representatives from the naval and air forces."

In Saudi Arabia, US mediators want to negotiate separately with the representatives of Moscow and Kiev about a limited ceasefire in the Ukraine war. US special envoy Keith Kellog spoke of a kind of shuttle diplomacy with which the US delegation wants to achieve a rapprochement between the two warring parties.

The negotiations will focus on possible steps towards a ceasefire. The first measure planned is to refrain from attacking energy facilities, although Ukraine also wants to protect other infrastructure objects. This limited ceasefire had already been agreed in principle during a telephone call between Putin and Trump, but without details on implementation. Most recently, both warring parties have been overrunning each other with massive drone attacks.
