Following reports of leaked Russian troops near Pokrovsk, the Ukrainian army is deploying more troops to the region in eastern Ukraine. "The enemy is using its numerical advantage and, despite significant losses in personnel, is trying to advance in small groups through the first line of our positions," General Staff spokesman Andriy Kovalev told the Ukrainian media. Additional troops had therefore been released to track down and destroy enemy sabotage squads behind their own lines.

Over the course of the day, the Russian army had made 35 attempts to break through the Ukrainian defense lines near Pokrovsk. The Ukrainian army had previously denied reports of a Russian breakthrough in the section near the towns of Pokrovsk and Dobropillya in the Donetsk region. Russian groups with a small number of soldiers leaking through does not yet mean that they will take control of these areas, the "Dnipro" army group responsible for the front section announced on Telegram. The situation remains difficult and the fighting in this region is the most intense compared to other sections of the front.

Ukrainian military observers had previously reported a Russian advance of more than ten kilometers northeast of the city of Pokrovsk, which is threatened with encirclement. Several military reports had already mentioned the advance of small groups of Russian soldiers into Pokrovsk itself. The agglomeration of the cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad is surrounded on three sides by Russian troops. Only a corridor about 15 kilometers wide remains for supplies.

The Russian army has been trying to capture the Pokrovsk transportation hub for months. The city has already been largely destroyed in the course of the fighting.
