Ukraine has massively expanded its arms production in the past year despite constant Russian drone and missile attacks, according to its own statements. "In particular, around 2.5 million mortar and artillery shells and the same amount of ammunition for drones were produced," explained Herman Smetanin, the minister responsible for armaments. Existing products have been improved and new ones added. Compared to 2023, arms production has increased sixfold overall, Smetanin claimed - but did not provide any concrete figures to back this up.

The aim is to produce 3,000 missiles and 30,000 long-range drones in the current year, Smetanin said. Around a third of the weapons used by the military already come from domestic production. President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously said the same.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for almost three years with Western military aid. According to Selenskyj, almost 40 percent of the weapons used currently come from the USA, with a further 30 percent coming from European countries. Russia has also massively expanded its arms production as a result of the war.
