The exchange of prisoners of war between Kiev and Moscow, which had come to a standstill, will be resumed according to Ukrainian sources. The process will be reactivated shortly and will involve the return of 1,200 Ukrainian soldiers from Russian captivity, wrote former Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov, who has since been appointed Ukrainian ambassador to the USA, on Telegram. Umyerov had led the Ukrainian negotiating delegation in talks with Russia in the spring.

The most important result of the negotiations in May and June was the agreement on prisoner exchanges, which took place in spring and summer. However, there have been no new releases for some time now. The process of talks between Moscow and Kiev on ending the war, which has lasted more than three and a half years, has also been put on ice following Umjerov's transfer.

On the instructions of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, he has now held talks with mediators in Turkey and the United Arab Emirates to revive the prisoner exchange, Umyerov announced. According to him, the fundamental issues have been clarified and technical consultations on the process will begin shortly. He promised that the soldiers would return home before Christmas and New Year.
