Kiev's mayor Vitali Klitschko is calling for a negotiated solution to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. "We have to find a diplomatic solution", Klitschko told the newspaper "Bild" in Kiev. "Everyone in our state, in our country, is tired of this war," he said. "Unfortunately, we have paid a huge price for this war: the lives of our patriots, of our soldiers, of our citizens. Hundreds of cities have been destroyed. A large part of Ukraine is occupied by Russia."

Klitschko said that it was still "far too early" for such talks regarding Russia's demands for the separation of territories - but did not explicitly rule out giving up territories. This is a question for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, said Klitschko. "He has to make difficult decisions." Some of the people will never be prepared to cede part of the country to Russia, said the former boxing world champion.
Meeting between Putin and Trump imminent
On Friday, US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin want to negotiate in the US state of Alaska about a possible peace solution in the Russian war of aggression that has been going on for almost three and a half years. There are fears in Kiev, Berlin and Brussels that both could work towards Ukraine ceding territory to the Russian occupiers. Selenskyj, who has not been invited, is strictly opposed to ceding territory to Russia and vehemently demands to be included in negotiations on the future of Ukraine.
