According to the Kremlin, Russia has agreed to US President Donald Trump's request for a limited ceasefire in Ukraine until Sunday.

This should create a favorable atmosphere for negotiations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said according to the news program "Vesti" on state television in Moscow. Trump had also previously said that Putin was following this request.

Other Russian media initially only quoted Peskov as confirming a request from Washington. "In fact, President Trump has made a personal request to President Putin to refrain from attacks on Kiev for a week until February 1 in order to create favorable conditions for talks," Peskov told the Interfax news agency.

When asked whether Putin had agreed, Peskov replied: "That goes without saying, it was a personal request from President Trump." This is clear from the recording of the Kremlin spokesman's remarks published by "Westi".

The next round of talks between Ukraine and Russia is planned for Sunday (February 1) in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Millions of people in the capital Kiev and other cities in Ukraine have been without electricity and heating for weeks following Russian attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said in Kiev that Russia had not fired on any energy objects on Friday night.
