The Kremlin has confirmed the next round of talks with Ukraine and the USA on a possible end to the war for the middle of this week.

The meeting in the United Arab Emirates was originally planned for Sunday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in Moscow, according to the Russian news agency Interfax.

However, additional arrangements had to be made between the three delegations. "The second round will now take place on Wednesday and Thursday in Abu Dhabi," he said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj has also named February 4 and 5 as the new dates.

Peskov: Partial ceasefire only applied until Sunday

In mid-January, Ukrainian and Russian negotiators held direct talks in Abu Dhabi for the first time after a long break; the USA sat at the table as a mediator. Peskov said that there was nothing to add to the fact that the announced freeze on attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities only applied until Sunday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi wrote of new Russian attacks on energy facilities in frontline and border communities. However, he stated: "There were no targeted strikes by Russian missiles or combat drones on the energy infrastructure". However, the Energy Ministry in Kiev had previously announced that Russian attacks had caused power outages in the Kharkiv, Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions, as well as in the central Ukrainian region of Cherkasy.
