The Kremlin has criticized the new US sanctions as an attempt to undermine the positions of Russian companies with competition-distorting regulations.

"At the same time, of course, such decisions must also lead to a certain destabilization of the international energy and oil markets," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Moscow would do everything in its power to minimize the damage to its own economy.

Peskov was convinced that Moscow would also be able to resist the latest round of sanctions. It is impossible to use sanctions to stop energy routes that have formed naturally. If an obstacle is created in one place, alternatives will appear elsewhere, he said.

The USA imposed further sanctions against the Russian energy sector last week due to Moscow's war of aggression against Ukraine. The oil companies Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegas, as well as 183 tankers suspected of belonging to Russia's shadow fleet, are subject to restrictions. These are tankers and freighters that Russia uses to circumvent existing sanctions on oil transportation. The Russian nuclear company Rosatom is also affected.
