On this day, the Russian "Victory Day" is celebrated - to commemorate the victory over Nazi Germany 80 years ago in the Second World War. "We are happy to see everyone who is ready to celebrate this grandiose date with us," emphasized Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. In this context, he criticized the rhetoric of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.

Kallas had warned the heads of state and government of EU countries and accession candidates against taking part in the victory parade on Red Square. She had said that the EU would not regard this as a trivial matter in view of the large-scale Russian war in Ukraine. Moscow considers these "harsh statements" by Kallas to be wrong. He was certain that not all EU countries accepted this rhetoric, Peskov said.

In addition to China's head of state and party leader Xi Jinping and Brazil's President Lula da Silva, Serbia's President Alexandar Vucic and Armenia's head of government Nikol Pashinyan have also confirmed their attendance at the military parade. Both countries aspire to join the EU.

In Yerevan, Pashinyan's participation was confirmed once again following the warning from Brussels. "This is also our victory, 300,000 Armenians have died for victory," said parliamentary leader Alen Simonjan. Pashinyan's visit to Moscow was in no way connected to the EU.
