According to the media, Russia considers the proposals made by leading Europeans for changes to US President Donald Trump's peace plan to be "not constructive". "We don't like it", said Yuri Ushakov, foreign policy adviser to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, according to the Russian agency Interfax. Ushakov was referring to the points published by the media on which Germany, France, Great Britain and the EU leadership have been working. It was not about the previously unknown plan prepared by the USA and Ukraine in Geneva.

Ushakov emphasized that Russia was dealing with what had been officially communicated. He referred to US President Donald Trump's 28-point plan for ending the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Russia is ready to discuss this draft with the US side and is waiting for a signal from Washington.

Kremlin: discuss US plan in detail

Ushakov said that the points presented by Trump must be considered in detail. Many, but not all, of the points were acceptable to Russia. So far, no one had spoken to Russia about this. However, many of Moscow's demands appear to have been incorporated into the creation of this US plan. It has been criticized internationally because it demands more concessions from Ukraine than Russia.

Putin described Trump's plan on Friday as a basis for talks and as a draft that reflected his previous talks with Trump. The Kremlin leader also expressed doubts that the EU and Ukraine would support the plan. Since then, the Ukrainians have held intensive talks with the European states and with the US representatives on individual points. Putin made it clear that Russia could also achieve its war aims on the battlefield.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has described the outcome of the Geneva negotiations on the US plan to end the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine as a solid basis for further progress. Efficient and coordinated European engagement and a strong European presence in Geneva had made it possible to achieve good progress, she said after talks with European heads of state and government on the sidelines of an EU-Africa summit in Angola.
