Russia has reacted with joy to reports about the suspension of US military aid to Ukraine.

"The details remain to be seen, but if it is true, it is a decision that can actually move the Kiev regime towards a peace process," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Russian news agency Interfax.

Russia had repeatedly accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of having no interest in peace negotiations and preferring to continue the war. US President Donald Trump recently adopted the Russian argumentation to the dismay of other Western states. Selensky, on the other hand, repeatedly emphasized that he wanted to end the war.

Trump's administration is suspending US military aid for Ukraine, which has been under attack from Russia for more than three years. Trump has made it "unmistakably clear that his focus is on peace", according to the White House in Washington.
