"An unprecedented event, let's say. (...) Zelenskyi has in many ways shown a possibly complete lack of diplomatic skills," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Russian news agency Interfax.
It was the first reaction from President Vladimir Putin's apparatus since the conversation between Trump and Zelenskyi got out of hand on Friday and the Ukrainian head of state had to cut short his visit there. Putin had watched the conversation, said Peskov. Prior to this, there had already been derisive reactions from Russian politicians.
Peskov said that the talks between Trump and Selensky had shown how difficult it would be to reach a settlement to the Ukraine conflict. "The Kiev regime and Zelensky do not want peace. They want the war to continue," said Peskov. Trump had made similar comments on Friday. Zelensky, on the other hand, emphasized that he wanted to end the war.
