Ukrainian authorities have ordered the evacuation of families with children in further villages in the eastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv.

The governor of the region, Oleg Synyehubov, justified the decision with an "intensification of the security situation" around the long-embattled city of Kupyansk. The evacuation was ordered for 40 villages. According to the information, 409 families with 601 children are affected.

The city of Kupjansk, which has now been almost completely destroyed, is strategically important due to its location and various connections running through it. Several villages in the greater area have already been evacuated in the face of the advancing Russian troops. At the end of September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky spoke of a difficult situation on the Kupyansk front. Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for more than three and a half years.
