From next year, the police forces of French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino will be equipped with a new uniform for all police forces. This has already been adopted by the majority of Swiss police forces.

Thanks to the cross-corps uniform, the appearance of police officers in Switzerland will be standardized, said Captain Bernadette Rüegsegger, Head of the General Services Department of the Ticino Cantonal Police, when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency. The acquisition costs are also lower.

In addition, the introduction of the uniform could optimize logistical management. Otherwise, the new uniforms - just like the current ones - will meet the requirements of day-to-day police work, explained Rüegsegger. The uniform consists of blue clothing for police officers and a gray version for security assistants.

Gradual changeover

Police officers and gendarmes in French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino will gradually be equipped with the new CEP uniform from January 2026, the Conference of Latin Cantonal Police Commanders (CLCPC) announced on Wednesday. In the interests of sustainability and cost-effectiveness, the replacement will take place in stages from 2026 to 2028.

The other police forces in Switzerland have gradually adopted the common uniform since 2015. Despite the uniform appearance, the various police corps can still be distinguished by personalized features such as badges or rank loops, according to the communiqué.
