The Patria 6x6 vehicles were received by Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal during a visit to the Latvian military base in Adazi.
"The handover of Patrias demonstrates friendship, partnership and our willingness to contribute as much as possible," said Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds. The Baltic EU and NATO country has always supported Ukraine wholeheartedly and will continue to do so.
Schmyhal thanked Latvia for handing over the armored transport vehicles. Despite drones and other new technologies, conventional weapons systems continue to play a decisive role, he said. The vehicles are efficient equipment and save soldiers' lives. Latvia has handed over a total of 42 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine this year.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for more than three and a half years with Western help. Latvia, which borders Russia and its ally Belarus, is one of Kiev's most determined supporters. According to Spruds, the Baltic state will provide military aid amounting to around 0.3 percent of its economic output this year.
