For the first time, the French National Assembly has adopted a motion for a resolution by the right-wing nationalist Rassemblement National.

The non-binding text calls for a decades-old agreement with Algeria to be terminated and was approved by an extremely narrow majority. 185 MPs voted in favor of the text, 184 against and five MPs abstained.

According to the press office of the parliamentary chamber, this is the first time ever that a proposal for a legislative text or a motion for a resolution tabled by an MP from the Rassemblement National parliamentary group has been adopted. The leading French right-wing nationalist Marine Le Pen wrote on X of an "immense success".

Alongside Le Pen's right-wing nationalists and their allies, the conservatives voted in favor of the motion. MPs from Horizons, who are partners of President Emmanuel Macron's centrist party, also voted in favor of the text. Numerous MPs stayed away from the vote.
