According to official reports, at least twelve healthcare workers have been killed in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon. The doctors, nurses and paramedics were killed in the attack in the village of Burdsch Kalauijeh in the south, the Ministry of Health announced today. The staff had been working at a primary health care facility. Rescue work is continuing and the number of victims may still rise, it said.

"Such attacks are contrary to international law, which protects medical personnel," the ministry said. This was the second attack on the healthcare system in Lebanon within a few hours. Previously, paramedics in another village in the south had also been attacked.

Upon request, Israel's army initially stated that it was investigating the incident.
