The caretaker Prime Minister in Lebanon, Nadschib Mikati, has hopes for a ceasefire between Israel and the Hezbollah militia "within days". Mikati told the Lebanese television station Al-Jadeed. The US envoy for the Middle East, Amos Hochststein, had informed him that he would be traveling to Israel again for talks on a possible ceasefire.

There was initially no confirmation from Hezbollah, Israel or the USA.

In parallel to the war in the Gaza Strip, Israel is also waging a war with the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia in Lebanon. The latter has been firing at Israel for a year, according to its own account in support of the Islamist Hamas in Gaza, which in turn carried out a massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023.

In a speech, the new Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Kassim once again spoke of the two conflicts being linked. Hezbollah had also previously stated that it would only agree to a ceasefire if a corresponding agreement was reached in Gaza.
