Israeli attacks on Lebanon have now claimed more than 1,000 lives, according to local reports. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 1,001 people have been killed and 2,584 injured as a result of the attacks. The figures relate to the period since the start of the Iran war and the associated renewed escalation in Lebanon.

With massive attacks in Lebanon, Israel wants to significantly weaken Iran's ally, the Hezbollah militia. Iran and Hezbollah are repeatedly firing rockets at Israeli cities and towns.

Meanwhile, fighting continues on the ground in southern Lebanon. Lebanese security sources told the German Press Agency that heavy explosions could be heard in the area around the town of Chiam. Israeli troops were advancing slowly and systematically destroying houses near the border with Israel.

According to Israeli military sources, the operation is aimed at protecting residents in Israel's north. River crossings there had been used by Hezbollah for attacks on Israel, it was said.
