In Lebanon, tens of thousands of people are seeking refuge in emergency shelters as a result of intensive Israeli airstrikes. 70,100 displaced persons are currently registered in 533 emergency centers, said Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Maulaui at a press conference in the capital Beirut.

Schools in particular had been converted into emergency shelters. There is still a large influx of displaced persons from the south.

The exact number of internally displaced persons in Lebanon is currently difficult to determine. Many people have fled to relatives, others are sleeping on the streets.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) announced on Wednesday, citing Lebanese authorities, that around 90,000 people have been considered newly displaced since Monday. According to the UN, this is not the first time that many of the displaced people have had to leave their homes to seek safety. The UN office expects the number of displaced people to continue to rise, as the situation is volatile. Many people are still on the move.
