The citizens of Baden do not want Gian von Planta in their ranks: They rejected the GLP politician's application for membership on Monday evening by 104 votes against to 46 votes in favor. This was the second time that von Planta had failed.

The local citizens of Baden had already clearly rejected Gian von Planta's application for membership in June 2024 - due to his critical stance on the structure of the local citizens' municipality. Among other things, von Planta had called for a merger of the local citizens' municipality with the residents' municipality to be examined.

Following an appeal by Gian von Planta, the Aargau cantonal council ordered a new vote. The GLP cantonal politician has lived in Baden since 2014, has no tax debts and his linguistic and local integration is undisputed. It was arbitrary that a candidate was not granted local citizenship simply because he might be seeking a merger.

On Monday evening, the citizens of Baden once again decided against von Planta's admission. However, it is questionable whether this second "no" will remain.

According to SRF-Regionaljournal Aargau/Solothurn, 51-year-old von Planta has already announced that he intends to lodge another appeal. If he does so, the cantonal council is unlikely to order a third vote, but will probably decide on the controversial admission itself, as stated in the local citizens' association's documents for the meeting.
