The UK government has announced a multi-million pound emergency package to support Ukraine's badly damaged energy infrastructure.

The funding of 20 million pounds (equivalent to more than 21 million Swiss francs) is to be used to repair and protect the energy supply, as Downing Street announced.

Ukraine is currently experiencing its worst winter since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression. Hundreds of thousands of people have no electricity due to the massive Russian attacks and, with temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees, no heating either.

According to the British, the millions in aid are intended to help cover the "urgent need for heat and electricity" for households, hospitals and schools, for example. With this latest package, the UK has provided a total of more than 470 million pounds to support the Ukrainian energy sector since the start of the war.
