Los Angeles County is responding to ICE raids with a declaration of emergency to provide more help and protection to migrants. In a vote on Tuesday (local time), the majority of the county executive voted in favor of the emergency declaration. This measure is intended to provide assistance for tenant protection and other needs of those affected.

Lindsey Horvath, a member of the district council and supervisor, had introduced the declaration. In this way, the county can support families who have been destabilized due to ICE raids and the Trump administration's deportation policies, she said.
"For months, families have been living under threat and workers have been taken away from their jobs," Horvath wrote in a statement. Fewer migrants are going to work out of fear of the actions of US President Donald Trump's administration. Thanks to the emergency declaration, the county can now intervene faster and better to support migrants and communities in economic distress.
According to the county executive, more than three million immigrants live in Los Angeles County, which has a total population of over ten million. In the greater Los Angeles area, weeks of protests had already been sparked in June by Trump's harsh migration policy and the actions of the authorities. Trump sent soldiers to Southern California with the declared aim of pushing back protests against ICE raids.
