In the canton of Lucerne, young people are still only allowed to vote from the age of 18. The population clearly rejected the constitutional initiative on the voting age of 16 on election Sunday after 78 of the 79 municipalities had been counted.

The final result is still pending. However, only one of the 79 municipalities is still missing. At the interim result at 12.15 p.m., only 20.9 percent of voters voted in favor of the initiative.
The constitutional initiative was launched by the "young and committed" alliance. This consists of the young parties of the SP, Greens, GLP and Mitte as well as various organizations and associations. The cantonal council rejected the initiative by 63 votes to 48.
