France and the Palestinian Authority want to work on the consolidation of a Palestinian state in a joint committee. "This committee will deal with all legal, constitutional, institutional and organizational aspects," said French President Emmanuel Macron after talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Paris. The committee should also contribute to the drafting of a new constitution.

Abbas said that the establishment of a constitutional committee was fully supported. He also reiterated his demand that the Palestinian transitional institutions in the Gaza Strip should have links to the Palestinian Authority.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had recently said that it was not yet clear whether the Palestinian Authority, which administers parts of the West Bank, would play a role in Gaza in the future. Israel has vehemently opposed this in the past.
