French President Emmanuel Macron has accused Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin of talking about a peace deal in the Ukraine war while at the same time continuing the deadly attacks on the country. "The only thing is for President Putin to finally stop lying," Macron said during a visit to Madagascar. "When President Putin talks to American negotiators, he tells them: I want peace. When he talks to the whole world, he says: I want peace." At the same time, however, he continues to bomb Ukraine and kill people.

"There is only one answer we are waiting for. Does President Putin agree to unconditionally cease fire?" said Macron. The Americans had proposed it, the Europeans supported it and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had said "yes". "If President Putin says 'yes', the weapons will fall silent", Macron said. The Russian president would have to answer the question of a ceasefire. "And at that moment, we can build a just, solid, lasting, robust peace."

He also told US President Donald Trump in a phone call two days ago that it was all about Putin's decision, Macron said. "American anger should only be directed at one person, President Putin."
