French President Emmanuel Macron has instructed the resigned Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to negotiate a way out of the political crisis by Wednesday evening. The president has given Lecornu, "the resigned prime minister who continues to manage day-to-day business, the responsibility of conducting final negotiations by Wednesday evening" in order to define a basis and measures for stability in the country, the Élysée Palace announced.

"At the President's request, I have agreed to hold final talks with the political forces to ensure the country's stability," wrote Lecornu on X. "I will let the head of state know on Wednesday evening whether this is possible or not, so that he can draw all the necessary conclusions."

According to the newspaper "Le Figaro", sources close to the president said that Macron would "assume his responsibilities" if Lecornu's "final negotiations" fail. Although Macron had recently ruled out resigning, he could dissolve parliament and call new elections.
