French President Emmanuel Macron is traveling to Greenland next week. He will visit the world's largest island on June 15 together with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, as announced by the Danish State Chancellery and the Greenlandic government. They plan to discuss the security situation in the North Atlantic and the Arctic with Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, as well as other topics such as economic development, climate change and renewable energies.

In recent months, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly spoken of wanting to take control of Greenland, which is largely autonomous but part of the Kingdom of Denmark. He has also not ruled out the use of the military. In the course of the controversy, US Vice President J.D. Vance traveled to the American military base Pituffik in northern Greenland at the end of March. Greenland and Denmark have clearly rejected Trump's demands. They received support from Germany, France and other EU states.
