The 63-year-old Maduro and his wife were arrested by the US military in the Venezuelan capital Caracas on Saturday night and taken out of the country.
The USA has charged Maduro with "drug terrorism", among other things. He is said to have used his office, which the USA considers illegal, to transport thousands of tons of cocaine to the USA. Maduro is said to have profited from this himself. He is said to have allied himself with drug traffickers.
Maduro had already been indicted in the USA in 2020 for drug trafficking, among other things. Now there is an updated indictment. His wife and son are also accused. The accusations are also directed against the current and former interior minister, among others.
