The power supply for more than 100,000 people in the area surrounding the Russian capital Moscow has failed following a fire in a substation. According to a statement from the city administration of Ramenskoye, the cause was a cable fire. However, a major Ukrainian drone attack was reported in the region at the same time. Residents of the towns of Zhukovsky and Lytkarino are also affected by the power outage. The city administration promised to repair the damage quickly.

Air traffic temporarily suspended
In the evening, the Russian military reported the downing of more than 100 Ukrainian drones within four hours. The majority of them were intercepted in the western Russian region of Bryansk on the border with Ukraine, but eight drones were also intercepted over the Moscow region. According to the military, three of them were heading towards the capital. Moscow's mayor Sergei Sobyanin later reported that further unmanned aerial vehicles had been intercepted. The drone attacks also forced Moscow's airports to temporarily suspend operations.
Russia has been systematically firing drones, missiles and cruise missiles at its neighbor's hinterland since the start of the war ordered by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in early 2022. However, Ukraine is now also attacking objects - primarily in the oil and gas industry - far behind the Russian border. The aim is to make it more difficult to supply the Russian army with fuel and to finance the war. However, the damage is in no way comparable to the extent of the destruction and the number of victims caused by Russian attacks in Ukraine.
