According to the US Department of Justice, he is an Afghan citizen living in Oklahoma City. The 27-year-old is alleged to have procured weapons and ammunition to carry out an attack on crowds on November 5 - the day of the US presidential election - in the name of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia.
The suspect was reportedly arrested along with an underage accomplice after they purchased two rifles and ammunition from undercover agents of the FBI in a fake sale. According to the US Department of Justice, the FBI searched the suspect's phone as part of the investigation. Investigators found communications with a person the suspect believed to be affiliated with IS.
The man is also said to have exchanged information in IS-affiliated Telegram groups and stored propaganda material from the terrorist organization. As part of his preparations, he also reportedly took steps to liquidate his family's assets.
The man faces up to 20 years in prison for supporting a terrorist organization and up to 15 years for illegally acquiring weapons for terrorist purposes.
