Zug cantonal councillor and Federal Council candidate Martin Pfister is looking forward to introducing himself to the public and parliament in the coming weeks. With these words, he opened his appearance before the media in Baar ZG on Thursday.
It is not his style to act lightly, he said. He had carefully examined his candidacy together with family members and for himself. "It is with a great deal of humility that I say today that I want to become a Federal Councillor," he said. He can take responsibility and provide leadership.
Martin Pfister lives in Baar and only announced his candidacy to succeed Viola Amherd, the centrist Federal Councillor, a few hours before the registration deadline last Monday. The 61-year-old has been Zug's Director of Health since 2016. He is a teacher, studied German and history and has worked for associations.
Commenting on the nomination, Mitte Kanton Zug wrote that Pfister impressed with his experience as an executive politician and, as an officer, brings a great deal of military knowledge to the table.
