The May Day parade in Zurich was largely peaceful. According to the organizers, around 14,000 demonstrators took part. The final rally took place on Sechseläutenplatz.

According to a statement from the Zurich city police, several hundred people, some of whom were masked, took part in the procession and can be assigned to the left-wing autonomous scene. They set off firecrackers and smoked petards. Along the route of the procession, shop windows and facades were spray-painted.

Against Trump and his "gang of oligarchs"

The keynote speaker at the final rally was Unia President Vania Alleva. In her speech, she took aim at US President Donald Trump "and his gang of techno-oligarchs". "Wherever the racist right is on the rise, fundamental rights, human rights and long-won freedoms are in danger," said Alleva. The trade union fight for equality and justice is therefore needed more than ever.

Left-wing autonomous groups have called for unauthorized demonstrations in the afternoon. In previous years, the police did not tolerate them.
