A Russian first lieutenant was sentenced to 18 years in prison and his subordinate to 12 years imprisonment, reported the independent portal "Mediazona", citing the court's press service.

The case had caused a stir due to its brutality. According to the court, the victim from the Luhansk region was an extramarital affair of the officer.

After an argument, he and his subordinate took the 23-year-old to the barracks for fear that his wife might find out about the affair.

There they tied the young woman up and blindfolded her with adhesive tape. They told other soldiers in the unit that the woman was a Ukrainian spy. The first lieutenant stabbed the victim around 20 times in total.

To cover their tracks, they later blew up the body with hand grenades. Before his arrest, the officer was known as the author of poems glorifying the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.

The Russian Ministry of Defense had reported on him in a propaganda film on its telegram channel. Russia has been waging war against Ukraine for more than three years.
