According to US media, US President Donald Trump has dismissed high-ranking inspectors from several federal agencies responsible for uncovering fraud and abuse in the government. The inspectors were notified by email by the president's director of personnel affairs that they had been dismissed with immediate effect, as reported by the Washington Post, among others.

As a rule, US presidents have the right to dismiss these so-called inspectors general. However, they must justify this in writing and submit it to Congress.

Hannibal Ware, head of a council that represents the inspectors in the government, responded to the dismissals by letter. "At this time, we do not believe that the actions taken are legally viable to dismiss inspectors general appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate," reads the letter, which was obtained by Politico.

After being sworn in, Trump immediately began to overhaul the state apparatus. The Republican has issued several executive orders to expand his options for filling positions with people who are loyal to his policies. Many employees in ministries and authorities have been cut or dismissed. These were not only high-ranking civil servants, who are usually replaced when there is a change of power, but also lower-level employees.
