According to media reports in spring, US Attorney General Pam Bondi informed President Donald Trump that his name appears in the files on sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This was reported by the "Wall Street Journal" (WSJ) and the "New York Times", citing high-ranking government officials and three people familiar with the exchange respectively. According to these sources, Trump was also informed that many other high-profile personalities were also named in the documents.

The fact that Trump's name appears in investigation documents as an acquaintance of Epstein is conceivable per se. This does not automatically imply guilt. For example, he was also named in court documents in a harmless context. Last week, the Republican was asked by a journalist whether Bondi had informed him that his name appeared in the files. Trump denied this, but confirmed that there had been a brief briefing.
According to the WSJ's research, Trump was informed at the meeting that, according to government officials, the files contained unconfirmed rumors about many people - including Trump - who had been involved with Epstein in the past. According to the report, it was a routine briefing on various topics.
Controversy surrounding the publication of the files
According to the WSJ, Trump was also told that high-ranking employees of the Department of Justice had no plans to release further documents in connection with the investigation into Epstein - as these would contain information about the victims, among other things. The US President said at the meeting that he would support the Justice Department's decision not to release any further files.
Trump has been under pressure in the Epstein affair for some time. Releasing the files on the case was one of his election promises - critics, including from his own camp, are now calling for this.
The arrest of Epstein, who had systematically abused minors over many years, caused a worldwide stir. According to official reports, he committed suicide in his prison cell in 2019 at the age of 66. His death caused wild speculation in parts of US society because he had excellent contacts in American high society. Presidents and billionaires came and went with him - Trump also spent time with Epstein, as several party videos of the two prove.
