Daniel Driscoll, the Undersecretary of Defense at the US Department of Defense, has been holding talks with representatives of the Russian government since Monday (local time), CBS, CNN and the "Wall Street Journal" report in unison.
Intensive talks are currently underway between Ukraine, European allies and the USA on a basis for a possible peace solution. The meeting in Abu Dhabi follows talks at the weekend in Geneva, in which Driscoll and other representatives of US President Donald Trump's administration were involved.
Washington had presented Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with a 28-point plan from US President Donald Trump. Europeans and Ukrainians renegotiated the plan, which was criticized by many as a "Russian wish list", with US representatives in Geneva. Moscow, for its part, has described the plan, which demands tough concessions from Ukraine, as a possible basis for negotiations, but has warned against any major softening in favor of Kiev.
