Despite their heavy losses in Ukraine, the Russian armed forces say they have no shortage of personnel. This year alone, the Russian army has been reinforced by 190,000 volunteers and temporary soldiers, announced the Vice-Chairman of the National Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev. The task set by the Kremlin of enlisting contract servicemen and volunteers has thus been fulfilled, said Russia's ex-president at a meeting in the Ministry of Defense.
"The average daily recruitment rate remains stable and amounts to around 1,000 people," Medvedev was further quoted as saying by the state agency Tass. The temporary soldiers, mostly reservists, supplement the normal call-ups.
The Russian armed forces are suffering heavy losses on the fronts in Ukraine. According to estimates by the Ukrainian military leadership, almost 550,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded since the start of the Russian war of aggression over two years ago.
