The march then reached the family home in Corcelles, where a man allegedly killed his ex-partner and their two daughters on Tuesday afternoon last week. Many children were among the participants. They carried white balloons, white roses and photos of the victims, including the two girls aged ten and three and a half.
The balloons were released into the air in front of the building in Corcelles. The organizers asked participants to wear white clothing and to come "in a spirit of peace and reflection". The silent march was organized by the mother of a friend of one of the girls who was killed.
Responsibility for the crime acknowledged
In an initial interrogation over the past few days, the alleged perpetrator, a 52-year-old Algerian, acknowledged his full responsibility for the crime, as the Neuchâtel public prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday. The man was unable to provide an explanation for his actions. The public prosecutor's office has now extended the proceedings against the man to murder.
The accused also admitted that he had deliberately attacked the police officer with a knife in his hand. This attack prompted a police officer to use his weapon and fire three shots into the defendant's lower body. The alleged perpetrator then had to be hospitalized.
The man had been living separately from his ex-wife in Le Locle NE since mid-June. Previously, the family, originally from Algeria, had lived together for several years in the apartment they shared in Corcelles. She had a C residence permit.
